SCO Secretary Spoke at Opening Ceremony of Boao Forum for Asia
On April 20, 2021, Boao Forum for Aisa officially opened at Boao Town of Hainan Province. The theme was "A World in Change: Join Hands to Strengthen Global Governance and Advance Belt and Road Cooperation".
The main objective of this year's forum is to strengthen mutual understanding in the post-pandemic era, create more momentum for the comprehensive socio-economic growth and effective global governance. Due to the pandemic, the forum was held both online and offline.
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the opening of the forum in his television speech. Nazarbayev, the first President of Kazakhstan, and heads of states from Brunei, Chile, Indonesia, Laos, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam also delivered speeches.
Vladimir Norov, SCO Secretary General emphasized in his opening remarks that, Boao Forum for Asia had become an important platform, with global significance in promoting regional economic integration, common development, and solving Asian and global problems.
This forum is the first major international event held offline this year. Over 2600 representatives from more than 60 countries and regions, and over 1200 journalists from more than 160 media outlets from 18 countries and regions participated. In total, over 4000 members registered.
