It is a key university directly under the jurisdiction of the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. Being selected by the national Project 111, it is the first university in China to set up the rubber major, and the only Asian university specializing in rubber. It has the reputation of the Huangpu Academy of Chinese Rubber Industry. It is a member of CDIO Engineering Education Consortium.
